Ride a Vintage DC-3 Aircraft at Texarkana Regional Airport
Exciting things happening at the Texarkana Regional Airport this Saturday, June 12, as officials will be breaking ground on a new airport passenger terminal to be built.
In addition, representatives with American Airlines and the Flagship Detroit Foundation will be there to celebrate the 90th Anniversary between the airport and American Airlines. The new terminal is expected to cost approximately $36 million dollars and replace the current airport terminal that was built in 1960.
According to a press release, the new terminal will include an advanced baggage handling system, expansion opportunities for more airlines and destinations. a new concession area and will also include two enclosed passenger boarding bridges that connect from the terminal directly to the aircraft’s boarding door, something Texarkana Regional Airport has never had.
The 90th Anniversary is in celebration of commercial airline service between the Texarkana Regional Airport and American Airlines. The Flagship Detroit Foundation is bringing in a vintage Ford Tri-Motor airplane painted with the original pin-striping of American Airlines.
Visitors and airplane enthusiasts are invited to come out to the airport from 4:30 PM until 7:30 PM on Saturday, June 12, and from 9 AM to12:00 PM on Sunday, June 13. While your there you can view or take a tour of the vintage Douglas DC-3 aircraft and the LifeNet helicopter. Make a donation of at least $100 to the Flagship Detroit Foundation and you can get a ride on the vintage aircraft.
