Rotary Clubs Seeking People to Help Place American Flags Around City
The Rotary Clubs of Texarkana are always on the look out for people who would like to help with their American Flag patriotic program.
You have surely seen the flags that adorn many businesses and some homes on certain holidays. Well, these flags don't put themselves up or take themselves down. The Rotary Clubs of Texarkana need people like you to help them out.
Here is a little history on the event:
On July 4, 2000, the Rotary Clubs of Texarkana banded together, and began a project to honor our country and our flag, by placing 3x5 American flags at businesses and residences all over the city, on six holidays a year. Beginning with about 400 flags in 2000, the project has grown to over 4,300 flags currently.
Due to the demand, they began to enlist help from non-profit organizations, and individuals, to place the flags on the holidays. It became a fund raiser for some, and just extra pocket money for others, as their “assistance group” grew.
The organization is looking for more helpers as the project continues to grow. A typical route is about 70 flags. They pay $2.00 per flag to the people who help, plus $10.00 to help with gas costs. That comes to $150.00, six times a year, or $900.00 annually.
If you would like to assist in the project, please call David Mims at 903/223-6533, or Joel Campisi at 903/276-9358. They will meet with you and answer any questions you might have.
It is a great project, with the proceeds going back into the city, and many non-profit organizations. The very popular Splash Pad at Spring Lake Park was funded by this project.
The Rotary Clubs of Texarkana say they would love for you to help them expand the project, and “PAINT TEXARKANA RED, WHITE, AND BLUE”.
