Sci-Port Discovery Center, a major regional attraction in Shreveport, LA., has been closed since the “stay at home” ruling in early March, will be partially reopening on Friday, June 5.

This re-opening will include the new Gallery of Intrigue, featuring employee guided Adventures of Intrigue, as well as the IMAX Theatre and the Sawyer Space Dome Planetarium.  As we are entering Phase 2 of the Governor’s re-opening initiative, only the first floor of Sci-Port will be re-opening during this time.  Changes to hours and pricing are reflected in this change.  General Admission will temporarily change to $10 per visitors over the age of 12 months and will include admission to an IMAX movie and access to employee-led activities and demonstrations.  Sci-Port will be open Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM.

According to their press release, The new Gallery of Intrigue offers unique learning experiences for people of all ages with a focus on our ecosystem and the history of Northwest Louisiana. Upon entering through a three-dimensional train station, visitors experience an explorative walk-thru gallery featuring a variety of exhibits including Dockside (inspired by the steam wheelers, import and export business, and the oil manufacturing industry),  the Inventors Mansion (a two-story mansion façade inspired by the home of Captain Henry Miller Shreve), Caddo Cabin (inspired by the local culture and ecosystem) and the Cityscape 50’ tall mural which includes a “Peek A Boo” section to entice guests to identify indigenous birds of our region. This special Louisiana-themed area represents a partnership with the Caddo Lake Institute and the Louisiana Audubon Society.

The $10 general admission fee will temporarily include one IMAX movie.  Guests can enjoy the Hubble at 11 AM and 1 PM and SuperPower Dogs at 3 PM on Friday and Saturday, and Hubble at 1 PM and SuperPower Dogs at 3 PM on Sunday.  Members and their guests can enjoy an IMAX movie for $4.

Executive Director Dianne Clark says, "As we transition to Phase 2 of the Covid-19 guidelines, every effort is being made to protect our staff and guests.

"We have installed hand sanitation stations, established limited exhibit access and implemented stringent cleaning and capacity regulations.”

Due to social distancing protocols, Sci-Port will be limiting the number of people into each section of the first floor.  The purchase of online to purchase tickets in advance is encouraged to ensure capacity limits are followed carefully. Walk-in guests are welcome but will be admitted as capacity allows.
