September is Hunger Action Month – Wear Orange to Show Your Support Aug. 27
Harvest Food Bank will kick off national Hunger Action Month on Tuesday, August 27, with their annual Hunger Action Luncheon, taking place at noon at Williams Memorial United Methodist Church.
The luncheon will feature guest speakers on the impact of hunger and will recognize outstanding volunteers, pantries, and donors. Tickets for the luncheon are $10 and reservations can be made by calling 870-774-1398 or e-mail development@hrfb.org. Carry out lunches can also be ordered in advance.
During the month of September Harvest Regional Food Bank and other food banks in the Feeding America network, will host events to inspire people to take action to help the millions of people who are food insecure in the United States. These events are part of Harvest Regional Food Banks ’30 Ways in 30 Days Campaign,’ identifying simple ways the public can pitch in toward the effort to eliminate hunger in our region.
According to Camille Coker Wrinkle, Executive Director of Harvest Regional Food Bank, over 55,000 people struggle with hunger in the Texarkana area. “Hunger doesn’t have a season, but for the month of September, we want to raise as much awareness as possible about the issue, especially in our own community. One in 6 adults and 1 in 4 children deal with a lack of food. These are the people we live and work with every day.”
Texas Roadhouse, El Chico, Taste and See Candies, Chipotle Grill, Fairfield Inn & Suites, Raising Cane’s, and Ledwell Machinery, will all hold special promotions to benefit the food bank. Hunger Action Month t-shirts can be ordered from Harvest Regional Food Bank for $15-$20, depending on shirt size.
The full 2019 Hunger Action Month calendar can be found on the Harvest Regional Food Bank website or on their Facebook page.
