USDA Cuts Hit Texarkana’s Harvest Regional Food Bank
Harvest Regional Food Bank is one many food banks who have recently had shipments of food from the U.S. Department of Agriculture cancelled. This is putting Harvest, as well other food banks, at a disadvantage in battle food insecurities. Compared to what they normally receive, these shipments total about 30% of the food bank’s total supply, and Harvest remains confident about their ability to continue meeting the hunger needs of the community.
“Harvest Regional Food Bank has served the Texarkana area for 35 years, and our commitment to the 60,000 food-insecure neighbors in our region, will not change,” according to Food Bank CEO, Camille Wrinkle. “We have always had a strong base of community support and we will continue relying on their generosity during this gap in service.”
While cancelled shipments have cost Harvest Regional Food Bank over 100,000 pounds of food so far, there is hope that shipments will resume again soon.

“We are hopeful these cuts will be temporary, and shipments will be rescheduled later in the year,” says Wrinkle. “In the mean time, Harvest will be using funds from grants, events and individuals to purchase the food needed to help those struggling with hunger in southwest Arkansas and northeast Texas.”
What does this mean for you and I, give all you can to help them get over the hump so they can continue to service everyone in the Harvest service region.
