Social media sites are lit up about a recall on "Fireball Whisky"... well, it's sort of true, but not a big mass recall like some folks are leading you to believe.

"Fireball Cinnamon Whisky" has really blown up lately especially with the college crowds. The spirit has surpassed sales of Cuervo and is actually beginning to ease up to Jagermeister levels of popularity, so when people started sharing the story "it was being recalled" people began to flip out about it.

After a quick Snopes.com search, it turns out that there is a little bit of truth to the story but has been overly exaggerated. It is not a broad recall, and there have been no reports that it was being recalled in the United States, but in Finland and Sweden the beverage has been pulled from shelves while Systembolaget, the state alcohol retailer, tests for levels of propolyne glycol. Keep in mind that Finland and Sweden's policies regarding the chemical are at least 50 times more strict than those in North America and other countries.

Meanwhile in the States, sales of Fireball Whisky is still burning up cash registers.

Notice the spelling of "Whisky"? Seems to me the biggest reason for that is the way folks spell things in other countries. The beverages are very similar except for small nuances, but you will find that Countries with an "E" in their names (AmErica, IrEland)  usually spell it "Whiskey" and countries without an "E" (Canada, Japan, Scotland) will spell it "Whisky".

"Fireball Cinnamon Whisky" was originally a flavored schnapps under the Seagrams brand. Seagrams sold the brand to Sazerac Company in 1989 and was sold under the brand "Dr. McGillicuddy's Fireball Whisky" but rebranded in 2006 as "Fireball Cinnamon Whisky". In 2013 they made sales of $61 Million passing Jameson, Patron and Jose Cuervo.
