
Texarkana College Gifted $805K From Texas Workforce Commission
Texarkana College has been awarded more than $805,000 through the Texas Workforce Commission’s Skills Development Fund to provide specialized job training for employees at Graphic Packaging International. The funding will support customized instruction for more than 335 new and current workers in high-demand roles within the paper manufacturing industry.
Local Texarkana Training Will Support Growing Industry Needs
State of Texas officials said the investment is aimed at helping Texas workers gain the advanced skills needed to strengthen one of the region’s key manufacturing sectors. Governor Greg Abbott noted that programs like this help Texans secure better jobs while supporting industries that fuel the state’s economy.

TWC Chairman Joe Esparza added that Skills Development Fund grants give colleges and employers the ability to offer training tailored to industry needs, helping workers move into higher-skill positions.
Award Presented At Texarkana College
The grant was formally presented during a ceremony at Texarkana College’s McCulloch Industrial Technology Center, where representatives from TWC, Texarkana College, and Graphic Packaging International gathered for the announcement.

The Skills Development Fund is Texas’ primary workforce training program, partnering with community colleges, workforce boards, and the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service. Since its creation in 1996, the program has helped more than 4,900 employers train or upskill over 435,000 workers statewide.
