The City of Texarkana, Texas, has appointed Keith Beason as its new Parks Director. He is stepping into the role ahead of the planned retirement of long-time director Robby Robertson in April 2026. Robertson will work closely with Beason over the next several months to ensure a smooth transition of leadership and continuity for the city’s parks system.

Ensuring a Smooth Transition

City Manager David Orr welcomed the appointment, noting Beason’s commitment to the community.

“We are proud to welcome Keith into this new role as Parks Director,” Orr said. “He’s no stranger to our parks system and has already played an important role in advancing projects and keeping our parks at the center of community life.”

A Texarkana native, Beason is recognized as a Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP). He joined the City in 2020 and quickly moved up, serving as City Planner, Community Engagement and Parks Project Manager, and most recently, Assistant Parks Director. Over the past several years, Beason has been instrumental in growing programs like the Texarkana Farmers Market and advancing key parks projects.

Focusing on the Texarkana Parks Master Plan

Beason’s first major priority will be the implementation of the Parks Master Plan, a comprehensive, long-term roadmap guiding the system’s future development and operations. He stated,

“Robby Robertson has left an incredible legacy, and I look forward to continuing that work by investing in park improvements, activities, and events that bring our community together.”
