National Dog Day was earlier this week and if you were on Facebook you saw dog owners posting about their sweet pups. Even the Texarkana Texas Police Department joined in, by announcing their new K-9.

The Texarkana Texas Police posted on their Facebook page,

It's National Dog Day, and we can't think of a better way to celebrate than introduce our brand new K9 to you.
Everybody meet Gator.

He's a beautiful Belgian Malinois and is 16 months old. Gator's handler is Officer Jonathan Price. Officer Price said Gator has already shown his impressive skills in the short time they've been together.

He is trained in drug detection, apprehension and tracking. He completed a track training exercise in Hattiesburg Mississippi that was laid out 12 hours before the exercise started.

The TTPD stated that Monday was their 3rd patrol shift together. If you see Officer Price and Gator out and about be sure to thank them for their service.

Earlier this summer, Texarkana hosted the Regional K9 Trials and competed against 24 other K9 teams. Two of our K9 units advanced to the National Trials in June and did a great job bringing home some medals. You can read more about that at Texarkana Police K9 Teams Win Big at National Level
