A situation that could have easily turned bad was avoided on Wednesday afternoon in Texarkana. If it hadn't been for the Texarkana Texas Police, who knows what could have happened? The TTPD officers were looking for and located a truck that belonged to 38-year-old Ricardo Lopez. It was parked outside his home on King Street.

Lopez was wanted on a felony warrant for Deadly Conduct after allegedly firing several shots at his ex-girlfriend just a few days earlier.

Texarkana Man Barricades Himself Inside Home

The Texarkana Texas Police posted on their Facebook page that when officers tried to make contact, Lopez refused to come out of his house and barricaded himself inside. Due to his criminal history and the possibility of weapons being inside, the Texarkana SWAT team was called in to help safely resolve the situation.

Negotiators spent several hours trying to communicate with Lopez, but he remained unresponsive. Finally, to encourage his surrender, the officers deployed OC gas (the active ingredient in pepper spray) into the home.

Lopez eventually came out fo the house unarmed and was taken into custody without further incident, and no injuries were reported to anyone involved.

Lopez was booked into the Bi-State Jail, where he faces charges related to the earlier shooting incident.
