I am so tired of seeing scams that take advantage of people. The only way to stop them is to expose them and get the word out. These scams are meant to scare you and put you into 'panic mode' where you will react quickly and that is how they get you.

Texarkana, Texas, Police announced on their Facebook page, warning residents about a scam text message currently making the rounds that claims to be from the Texas DMV.

The message threatens a series of supposed penalties if the person does not immediately click the link attached and respond. Among the consequences listed are things like

immutable credential endorsement, registration voidance, statutory 30-day suspension, 35% monetary increase, and adjudication.

Officials say the message is clearly a scam and designed to confuse and scare people into clicking the link and providing personal information.

Do Not Click the Link in This Text Message. It is a Scam

Authorities say the real Texas DMV does not send threatening messages, and it definitely does not send text messages with the strange legal-sounding phrases. Scammers are sneaky and they will use intimidating language and urgency to pressure you into acting quickly before you realize the message isn’t legitimate.

What to do if You Receive a Text Message Like This in Texarkana

If you receive one of these texts, do not click the link or reply to the message.

Instead, officials recommend these steps:

1. Don’t click the link.

2. Don’t respond.

3. Report it as spam if your phone allows.

4. Delete the message.

TTPD says staying cautious and avoiding suspicious links is one of the best ways to protect your personal information from scammers.
