
Victim Named in Texarkana’s First Homicide of 2025
Texarkana Texas Police are investigating the city’s first homicide of the year after a deadly overnight shooting early Saturday morning.
TTPD officers responded to reports of gunfire just after midnight on Saturday, May 10, in the 1300 block of Carroll Street. When they arrived, they found two men inside the home who had been shot.
One of the victims, 21-year-old Jaylen Betts of Texarkana, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 52-year-old man, was taken to Christus St. Michael Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
According to police, the shooter or shooters are believed to have fired several rounds into the home from the street before fleeing on foot. No arrests have been made.
Investigators say it is still early in the case and are working to gather evidence and identify any suspects. The motive for the shooting remains unclear.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
