The team will study new ways to create durable, low-carbon construction materials by combining civil engineering, microbiology, and nanotechnology. The goal is to develop building materials that last longer while reducing the environmental impact of traditional construction methods.

Texas A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander said the highly competitive grant is a reflection of Dr. Elemam's dedication to research and innovation.

Creating Opportunities for Texas A&M Texarkana Students

The project will also provide hands-on learning opportunities for students in the university's growing Civil Engineering program.

According to a press release, students will have the chance to participate in research, test advanced materials, and gain real-world experience working on sustainable infrastructure projects. Workshops and outreach activities are also planned to help students learn about emerging engineering technologies.

Dr. Elemam said the grant will not only support important research but also help expand the university's research laboratory, strengthen the Civil Engineering program, and give students valuable experience as they prepare for careers in the field.
