Texas Adds Five New Paddling Trails at Lewisville Lake
Listen up, Paddlers! We have some new places to paddle our hearts out in North Texas.
Whether you paddle by canoe, kayak, or paddleboard like me, this is great news! I love paddleboarding, so I am super excited to see more and more paddle trails being made and opening up for paddlers.
The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (TPWD) is officially opening five new paddling trails on Lewisville Lake in Highland Village on Thursday, June 25. This brings the total number of Texas Paddling Trails statewide to 96.
A grand opening ceremony is at 11 AM at Lakeside Community Park, located at 707 Highland Village Road.
More Ways to Explore the Water in Texas
The new Hickory Creek Arm trails add eight miles of official paddling routes to the statewide program and feature several launch points, giving you the choice of anything from a quick half-hour outing to a relaxing half-day adventure on the water.
Access points include Marauder Park, Pilot Knoll Park, Sunset Point Park, Lakeside Community Park, and Copperas Branch Park.
According to TPWD, the trail system was designed to give paddlers a variety of options, including loop routes and one-way trips through one of the most scenic areas of Lewisville Lake.
Fishing and Texas Wildlife Along the Way
In addition to paddling, the trails offer great opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing.
This is great for Anglers who paddle; you can fish for largemouth bass, channel catfish, crappie, white bass, and striped bass. The area is also home to a variety of birds and wildlife, including great blue herons, great egrets, mallards, swallows, and belted kingfishers.

Shelly Plante, nature tourism manager for TPWD, said in a press release,
TPWD is excited about the addition of the Highland Village Paddling Trails on the Hickory Creek Arm of Lewisville Lake. Paddlers will have plenty of options for loops and one-way trails, along with opportunities to fish and view wildlife on this beautiful section of the lake.
A Growing Outdoor Recreation Program in Texas
The new trails were developed through a partnership between TPWD and the City of Highland Village.
The Texas Paddling Trails program was created to encourage outdoor recreation while promoting conservation and sustainable tourism throughout the state. With the addition of these new routes, paddlers now have nearly 100 designated trail systems to explore across Texas.

Whatever you might be looking for, spending a few hours on the water, reeling in a fish, or simply enjoying nature, the new Lewisville Lake paddling trails will offer another great way to experience the outdoors this summer.
