Three Arkansas Towns Make ‘Loneliest Cities in The US’ List
Well, this is sad, a national list came out with the loneliest cities in the US and three of them are in Arkansas.
This study by 247 Wall St. looked at 384 metro areas across the United States and looked at a few different factors. The main factor was how many people live alone. Of course, living alone doesn't always mean you are lonely but this study is interesting to see in what cities and parts of the country where the most people live alone.
This also makes me think that if these places have the most people living alone, these areas should be great for singles, right? Well, that question is still up for debate. What is true though is being alone doesn't mean you are lonely.
Of The 50 Loniliest Cities in America, These 3 Arkansas Cities Made the List
#32 Little Rock, North Little Rock, Conway Area
In 2022 there was 34% (107,082 Households) of the population living as a One-Person Household. Breaking it down further the older population of 65+ years was 32.2% of that total or 34,442 are living alone.
#16 Hot Springs
In 2022 One-person households equaled 34.9% which was 15,805 households.
and the 1-person household of 65 and older was 8,563, or 54.2% of one-person households. That makes sense in Hot Springs because it does have a large retirement community but still to see so many people 65 and older living alone is kind of sad...
The Arkansas and Texas Town To Make The List is ...
#6 Texarkana Texas, Arkansas
For such a small town this one is really a big shocker. In 2022 One-person households in this town was 36.9% that's 20,521 households. But the 1-person household 65 years and older was 8,557. That is 41.7% of one-person households.
What was the loneliest city in all of the United States?
District of Columbia. With 48% of the population living alone. But it is interesting to see that the loneliest area in the county has the least amount of people 65 and older living alone at only 23%.
