James Black School Offers Free Bladesmithing Course for Veterans
The James Black School of Bladesmithing and Historic Trades is offering a rare opportunity for veterans, hobbyists, and aspiring artisans to learn one of America's oldest crafts. Tucked away in Historic Washington State Park, in Arkansas, it is the only institution of its kind in the University of Arkansas System.

James Black School - A Legacy of Craftsmanship
Founded to honor the legacy of James Black, the legendary creator of the original Bowie Knife, the school blends art, history, and practical hands-on education. Students receive expert-led training in high-skill areas like forging, handle construction, and the intricate process of creating Damascus steel.
"This isn’t just a course in metalwork," said Jennifer Teresa, UAHT Dean of Technical and Industrial Programs. "It’s an immersive experience where art, history, and technique collide."
