Texarkana: It’s Time to Walk and Make a Difference Against Alzheimer’s
Most of us have been affected by Alzheimer's. I know I have. I don't talk about it very much because it is still so painful to open up about it. But it is time. It's time to try and make a difference and raise money to find a cure. We can do that by joining the Walk to End Alzheimer's in Texarkana this September.
I am walking in honor of my mother, Kathryn, and my dear brother, Craig.
A Glimmer of Hope: Advancements in Treatment
There is no cure for Alzheimer's but there have been some great advancements in treating this cruel disease. Two drugs are available now that can slow down the progression of Alzheimer's and other dementias. I know it's not a cure yet but it could mean more time with our loved ones.

Remembering Loved Ones: My Mother and Brother
My mother passed from dementia in 2005. And it's still very hard to talk about it. You see your loved one slowly lose their memories of themselves, their dreams, accomplishments, and skills. They eventually lose their memory of you. I think that is the toughest part for family members. It's hard to get any closure. I told my mother I loved her, but she didn't know who I was.
My brother passed only 5 years ago from early-onset Alzheimer's. He started showing symptoms before he was 60. He was truly one of the smartest people I have ever met, next to my dad, and he was a great brother. It was heartbreaking to watch this disease take over.
One of my dearest and oldest friends, English, is walking with me. She has been going through the heartache of Alzheimer's with both her parent and just recently lost her dad to this horrible disease.
