Get ready for the 19th Annual Whistlestop Festival in downtown Ashdown, Ark. on Saturday, May 2.There will be plenty of things for the entire family to see and do including the 8th Annual Miss Whistlestop Baby and Beauty Pageant and the Whistlestop Fun Run 5k. Pre-registration begins at 7 a.m. and the race starts at 8 a.m at 181 Main Street.

There will be live Entertainment, children's activities, great food and vendor booths selling their goods and merchandise. This also kicks off the Farmer's Market season so expect plenty of fruits and vegetables for sale. Be sure to check out the antique car, tractor and motorcycle show.

In addition, there will be a Boy Scouts pancake breakfast, Hookem' and Kookem' Catfish cook-off, biggest catfish fishing contest, softball tournament, square dancers, exhibits at the Two Rivers Museum and a street dance from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Did You Know

Ashdown was first known as Keller and later nicknamed Turkey Flat by earlier settlers. The city was born as a result of the construction of the Kansas City Railroad. William & Maloy Waddell originally owned the land that later became the incorporated town in 1892.
