Students in Arkansas schools will soon have to get used to a new bill that prohibits the use of cell phones during school starting in the upcoming year. SB142 known as the "Bell to Bell, No Cell Act," was passed and signed into law by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders on February 20, 2025.

What Does That Mean For Arkansas Schools?
It means schools will be required to implement strict phone policies for students during regular school hours. The only exceptions allowed would be in case of an emergency or medical reason. An electronic device such as a tablet is exempt from the rule if the tablet was issued by the school, according to a report from THV11. The bill was passed overwhelmingly by lawmakers in the Arkansas 95th General Assembly held last week.

Free Breakfast for Students
Governor Sanders also signed a bill SB59 that would provide one free breakfast for each school day for students. Funding will come from the Food Insecurity Fund to provide students free breakfasts regardless of eligibility. Some of the funding for this program will come from the taxes collected on sales of medical marijuana. The free breakfast will be available in the 2025-2026 upcoming school year.
Other bills signed into law include the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies Act.
Raw Milk Products Now Allowed to be Sold
A new bill signed into law now allows raw milk products to be sold at farmers' markets or outside of the farm at other places. However, a warning label must be on the milk jug stating where it came from and that it is raw milk with contact information.
