Amazon Officially Cancels ‘I Love Dick,’ ‘One Mississippi’ and ‘Jean-Claude Van Johnson’
We knew Amazon was likely to drop a few series in its quest for universal hits, but this is a bloodbath. Not only have Jill Soloway’s I Love Dick and Tig Notaro’s One Mississippi been given the axe, but not even Jean-Claude Van Damme could kick it away.
Amazon dropped all three pink slips late Wednesday, denying second seasons for I Love Dick and Jean-Claude Van Johnson, as well as a third for One Mississippi. The cancellations follow Amazon’s first-ever dismissal of all three new comedy pilots for the season, including Bridget Everett dramedy Love You More, Glenn Close zombie comedy Sea Oak and Diarra Kilpatrick comedy The Climb.
All three series (as well as the comedy pilots) were greenlit by former Amazon Studios head Roy Price and comedy/drama head Joe Lewis, both of whom exited the company over sexual harassment scandals. Company founder Jeff Bezos has been seeking broader, more international hits for Amazon, as we saw with the ungodly sum spent on a Lord of the Rings TV series.
No word yet on the fate of Transparent after Jeffrey Tambor’s harassment scandal, so stay tuned for the latest.
