Leeland Davidson's parents were natural U.S. citizens. The ninety five year old has lived in America his entire life and served in the Navy during World War II. Most would consider the guy an American hero for his sacrifice for his country. But recently, Leeland discovered that he's not technically a U.S. Citizen.

The problem is that he was born in British Columbia and his parents failed to register his birth with the U.S. Government. He discovered this when he was turned down for an enhanced drivers license he was trying to obtain to visit his relatives in Canada.

"I want it squared away before I pass away," he says.

Of course Mr. Davidson wants to clear this matter up as quickly as possible, but when he went to the local passport office to discuss it they were anything but helpful, telling him that if he pursued the matter he risked being deported and possibly losing his Social Security.

That part of the story really gets under my skin. The guy put his life on the line for this country, has lived here his entire life and is as American as any of the rest of us and these passport office employees are telling him to drop it. As if he isn't worthy of their time. One would think, if they're true Americans, they'd be falling all over themselves to try and help this man.

In my humble opinion, this matter should be cleared up by our government quickly. Recognize his citizenship, thank him for his service to our country and let him go visit his relatives in Canada!
