And They’re Off – New Season For Racing in Hot Springs Starts Jan. 12
It's hard to believe but the 2018 live racing season at Oaklawn Park begins Friday, Jan. 12, in beautiful Hot Springs, Ark. There's just something special about getting a group of friends or family together and heading to the races.
However, you better bundle up good Friday because the temperatures are expected to be very cold. The best part of the opening weekend, is of course, their world famous corned beefed sandwiches for only 50 cents, topped off with a 10 cent soft drink on Saturday, Jan. 13. I mean, that's worth the trip alone even if you don't plan on betting on the ponies.
Gates open at 11AM and the frist race starts at 1PM with the $125,000 Pippn Stakes on Friday. There's plenty of things at Oaklawn Park to keep you busy during the racing season including plenty of gaming action and some great shows from time to time.
When I worked in radio in Hot Springs early spring was my favorite time to go and sit in the bleachers outdoors on a nice sunny day. Hard to believe this is their 114th year for races at Oaklawn Park.
The 2018 live racing season runs through Saturday, April 14. Races are Thursday through Sunday.
