Arkansas PBS is helping kick off the holiday season by livestreaming two wonderful seasonal traditions as part of its Arkansas Live initiative. A Tradition Nearly Nine Decades Strong

This year marks the 87th anniversary of the Capitol Lighting Ceremony in Little Rock, a cherished Arkansas tradition that continues to bring families and communities together. Secretary of State Cole Jester will lead this year’s celebration, carrying forward a legacy that has brightened the Capitol grounds for generations.

According to a press release, the tradition began under former Secretary of State Crip Hall and a resourceful staff electrician, made the very first Capitol display using sheet metal, string lights, and a silver fir tree illuminated with rotating lights. Now, this event has grown into one of Arkansas' most treasured holiday events, showing its sense of community.
