Arkansas State Police Give Update on Fordyce Shooting Victims
Yesterday, Sunday, June 23 the Arkansas State Police Colonel Mike Hagar gave and update on the latest developments about the shooting that took place at a grocery store located in Fordyce on Friday, June 21, 2024.
They identified another victim late Saturday, bringing the total number of injured to 15. Among those injured were 12 civilians, two law enforcement officers, and the suspect.
The four people killed in the shooting were:
Shirley Taylor, 62
Callie Weems, 23
Roy Sturgis, 50
Ellen Shrum, 81
Five female and three male civilians, aged 20 to 65, survived their injuries. Five of them still remain hospitalized, with one woman in critical condition at UAMS in Little Rock. Three injured civilians were treated and released from the Dallas County Medical Center on Friday.
Six officers from the Fordyce Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office were present during the incident. Four additional Fordyce Police officers and an off-duty Stuttgart Police Department officer arrived after the suspect was taken into custody.
Jacob Murry, 26, an officer with both the Fordyce Police Department and the Dallas County Sheriff's Office, was treated on Friday for minor gunfire-related injuries. Fordyce Police Officer James Johnson, 31, was released from a Little Rock hospital Saturday evening after treatment for a gunshot wound.
Stuttgart Police Officer John Hudson, 24, suffered minor injuries unrelated to gunfire. He provided medical aid to an injured individual after the incident and was initially mistakenly reported as having gunfire-related injuries.
The suspect, Travis Eugene Posey, 44, of New Edinburg, will now be charged with four counts of Capital Murder, with additional charges pending. Posey was treated for non-life-threatening injuries after exchanging gunfire with law enforcement. He was released to ASP custody and transported to the Ouachita County Detention Center, where he remains.
