Arkansas Will Gain Up to 38 Minutes of Daylight in January
There is light at the end of the winter tunnel, daylight that is. If you are a fan of Spring and Summer like me then this is definitely great news for all of us in Arkansas and Texas.
The Longest Nights of Winter Are Over
Those dark nights are starting to get shorter. Back in December, the sun would set around 5:15 PM and it would be pitch black outside by 5:30. The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of sunlight and the longest day of darkness, was December 21.
You Probably Haven't Noticed More Sunshine Yet...But You Will
Since then, we have been gaining a few seconds more of sunlight each day. Have you noticed? Probably not but the good news is we will start to notice it big time over the next few weeks.
In southern Arkansas and north Texas, we will gain around 34 minutes more of sunlight by the end of January. The farther north you go in Arkansas the more daylight you'll get, and the same for farther north in Texas and into Oklahoma.
How Many More Minutes of Sunshine in Parts of Arkansas?
According to 5newsonline.com by the end of January Little Rock will receive about 36 minutes more of daylight, Ft. Smith 37 minutes and Fayetteville will receive 38 more minutes of daylight.
There's Sunlight at The End of The Tunnel
These early winter sunsets can be a little depressing, especially when you leave work and you want to run a few errands or take a walk in the neighborhood. It's too dark and it's really not very safe either. The great news is the sun will be hanging around a bit longer every day and that means spring and summer will be here before you know it.
