Bowie County Traffic Stop Uncovers 126 Pounds of Marijuana, Two Arrested
A minor traffic stop has led to a major drug bust on Thursday, May 1. Bowie County Sheriff's Deputy David McAlexander pulled over a vehicle in the 8400 block of Highway 67, between S. Kings Hwy and Redwater, which eventually led to the seizure of 126 pounds of marijuana and the arrest of two men. The driver was Ramon Martinez-Munguia, the deputy immediately noticed the smell of marijuana. When questioned, Martinez-Munguia handed over two rolled marijuana cigarettes, leading to his arrest.
The passenger, Marc Isauro Arteaga-Carrion, was asked to step out of the vehicle for a search. As Deputy McAlexander opened the trunk, two one-pound vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana tumbled to the ground. A thorough search uncovered a staggering 114 bags of marijuana, totaling 126 pounds, along with $2,100 in cash.
Both Martinez-Munguia and Arteaga-Carrion were charged with a felony, possession of marijuana over 50 pounds but under 2,000 pounds. They were taken into custody, and their bonds were set at $100,000 each. The Sheriff’s Department hailed the stop as a significant blow to local drug trafficking, emphasizing their commitment to keeping highways and communities safe. The investigation is ongoing to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.
Great job Deputy McAlexander, keep up the good work.
