Breaker, Breaker 1-9 ‘The Bandit Ready For a Run From Texarkana’ [VIDEO/POLL]

This weekend Railfest 2012 is set for Saturday, May 12 and Sunday May, 13 in the Front Street Plaza, Downtown Texarkana. In addition to everything going on this weekend it's the 35th Anniversary of the iconic movie Smokey and the Bandit, and the 6th year of the Bandit Run by Restore a Muscle Car and by Main Street Texarkana.The Bandit Run, showcases the Trans Am just like the one used in the movie which starred Burt Reynolds and Sally Field. Other muscle cars are also welcome to make the run that starts from Texarkana at 9am Monday on Broad Street and ends up in Braselton, Georgia.

The sixth annual Bandit Run is expected to draw thousands of spectators across the country and feature more than 120 cars. Convoy with vehicles from Smokey and the Bandit, Car show, Cruise-in movie cars plus muscle cars from all over will be featured at Railfest this weekend. And don't forget a look-a-like contest sponsored by Orr Chevrolet and a special screening of the movie Sunday night.

Now if Burt Reynolds would just show up! Think we should have done a Cledus look-a-like contest too!

I can remember when this movie came out the theater was packed. Do you remember the theater? It was Joy Cinema City out in Nash, Texas. Those were the days...I remember after seeing that movie how much I wanted a Trans Am. I did have a buddy back then, that had one just like the one in the movie and we rode out to the lake every weekend. Boy, did it get the looks, which at the time I was a teenager so that wasn't a bad thing. Only problem I think he thought he was Burt Reynolds he like squalling the tires.

One more thing before there was cell phones, there was CB radio and this movie spawned an all out craze for the CB radio. Breaker, Breaker that's a big 10-4!
