Christus St. Michael to Host Free Knee Replacement Seminar May 11

The CHRISTUS St. Michael Center for Joint Replacement will present a free community luncheon seminar, “Total Knee Replacement: The Latest Technology,” at Noon on Friday, May 11, 2018, in the North Conference Center, CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System, 2600 St. Michael Drive.

Harold Weems, M.D., orthopedic surgeon, will share information on surgical and non-surgical treatment options for knee joint pain and explain the benefits of Mako Robotic-Arm Assisted total knee replacement, the latest advancement in orthopedics arthroplasty. A light meal will be served at no charge.

CHRISTUS St. Michael Health System is the first hospital in the Texarkana area to provide the latest technology for total knee replacement via Stryker’s Mako Robotic Arm-assisted technology.

Stryker’s Mako System is the first and only robotic technology that can be used across the joint replacement service line to perform total knee, total hip, and partial knee replacements, according to Joseph Ramos, Director of Physical Medicine and CHRISTUS St. Michael Center for Joint Replacement.

Seminar participants will learn how specially trained surgeons are able to precisely target only the diseased portion of the knee utilizing the Texarkana region’s only Rio® Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic System. In addition, Dr. Smolarz will share information about how this latest advancement transforms the way total knee replacements are performed. The robotic-arm assisted technology allows surgeons to provide each patient with a personalized surgical experience based on specific diagnosis and anatomy.
