Texarkana Students Benefit from $32K in Spring Scholarships
The Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund (ASPSF) raised $61,000 during its second annual Day of Giving, showing strong support for single parents working toward a college degree.
The fundraiser held on March 20 exceeded its $45,000 goal and nearly doubled last year’s total. The effort coincided with National Single Parent Day and brought together donors, volunteers, and community partners across the state.
Scholarships Help Local Students Stay in School
This spring, ASPSF awarded $659,600 in scholarships to 453 single parents across 69 counties, helping them stay enrolled in college or trade school while supporting their families.

Locally, 13 students in Bowie County received $24,400, while 7 students in Miller County were awarded $8,400.
One recipient, Shomari Nailon (above) of Bowie County, is studying health science at Texarkana College with plans to become a pharmacist.
“Without this program, I would’ve had to drop out and focus on my bills,” Nailon said. “Now I’m in my final semester and will be the first grandchild to graduate from college.”
Support Goes Beyond Tuition
ASPSF scholarships can be used for everyday needs that often stand in the way of completing school, including child care, transportation, housing, utilities, and school expenses. The program also provides support services to help parents balance school, work, and family life.
