If you are planning on traveling to Beaver Lake in Northwest Arkansas this Memorial weekend for swimming, you may want to rethink that.

Boating is fine but getting in the water on one of several beaches at Beaver Lake is not encouraged as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is closing all the beaches this weekend due to high E. coli levels, debris, and submerged obstacles, according to a press release.

The U.S. Corps of Engineers is expected to do testing on the swim beaches affected by E. coli and will do so until they feel the water is safe. Water levels at Beaver Lake have receded enough during this time to clean the beach areas. The only beach area open will be the one at Horseshoe Bend but you must be a registered guest in the campground for usage.

Officials realize this is an inconvenience for guests visiting the area this Memorial weekend but the safety concerns of their guests are of utmost importance to the U.S. Corps of Engineers. The public will be notified when the beaches are open again.

I just wanted to give you a heads up because nothing is more disappointing when you are expecting to do something and when you get there you find out you can't.
