Guinness Glory: Galveston to Honor History with World Record Attempt
Galveston, Texas, was recently in the news about the return of blue water. Now, Galveston Island could be in the news again on Saturday, September 6, 2025, if all goes well.
125th Anniversary of the Great Storm - Going for Guinness World Record
The City of Galveston is inviting 8,125 people to line up along the Galveston Island seawall in an attempt to break a world record and to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Great Storm in Galveston. In 1900, more than 8,000 lives were lost, and the island was destroyed in what was deemed the Storm of the Century after a deadly hurricane tore through the island.
Guinness World Record - The Longest Walkway in the Country
On Saturday, September 6, 2025, people will form a human chain and hold hands along the Seawall to set a Guinness World Record title for "The Longest Walkway in the Country." The Galveston Seawall stretches for 7.3 miles along the Texas Gulf Coast, making it the longest continuous sidewalk in the United States. The seawall was built to protect the island from storm surges and to break the force of the ocean waves.
