Girl Scouts – Diamonds Recruiting AmeriCorps Members to Serve South Arkansas Communities
Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma recently received a grant from the Corporation for National and Community service, which will allow the council to serve 400 girls in South Arkansas for the 2018-2019 academic school year. The council will use the funds to support the service of 14 half-time AmeriCorps members in Ashley, Columbia, Miller and Union Counties who will deliver the power of Girl Scouts to girls by way of the school system and local Boys and Girls Clubs.
According to a press release, Girl Scouts – Diamonds is currently recruiting members for the AmeriCorps Program. This position is a part-time, 10-month commitment that provides members with a living allowance, and upon successful completion, an education award.
AmeriCorps members will deliver programming based on the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) in weekly, hour-long sessions at multiple sites throughout the local community to underserved girls who may be struggling academically and socially. This programming will help girls develop a strong sense of self and improve academic outcomes. The position will require 22-25 hours of service per week.
