New Texas Horned Lizard License Plate Design Revealed

If you’re a fan of Texas wildlife, and who isn’t? Here’s a fun and great way to show it off! The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has just released a brand-new design for its horned lizard conservation license plate, as they celebrate the 25th anniversary of both the plate and the Conservation License Plate Program.

A Fresh Look for a Texas Favorite License Plate

Growing up in Texas, these cute little horny lizards were always fun to spot. The original Horned Lizard plate has been the top-selling conservation plate, outselling all the others. But it was time for a little makeover.

Earlier this year, Texans had the chance to vote on three new possible designs. The winning design is a photo of a cute horned lizard out in the wild. Award-winning wildlife photographer Hector Astorga took the photograph.

Richard Heilbrun, TPWD Wildlife Conservation Program Director, said in a press release,

The Texas horned lizard is just tough enough and just endearing enough to represent our people, our wildlife and our wild places.

Support Conservation and Buy a Texas Conservation License Plate

Each plate costs $30 per year, and $22 of that goes directly to TPWD conservation projects that help protect native species and habitats. These plates help everything from bumblebees to tortoises and turtles to birds, wildflowers and yes, those cute, horny lizards.

This program is celebrating 25 years, and it has raised over $12.7 million for Texas conservation efforts. They also have plates that feature deer, camping, bluebonnets, large mouth bass and even rattlesnakes!
