It’s Time to Enter The Annual Bridge City Chili Cook Off in February
Do you make great chili? If you do then get ready to compete in the Bridge City Project Chili Cookoff on Friday, February 25 in downtown Texarkana.
Where is the Border City Chili Cook-Off?
The chili cookoff is hosted by the Texarkana Homeless Coalition and will be held Friday from 5 PM to 8 PM at 316 Hazel Street in Texarkana, AR right in front of the Salvation Army shelter.
This all coincides with the annual count of homeless in our area that will take place the day prior on Thursday, February 24. According to a press release;
Every year the Department of Housing and Urban Development requires all homeless coalitions to count the number of homeless individuals by the last week in January. The PIT count offers insight into understanding our local homeless population, their current needs, and provide data to secure future funding for programs that combat homelessness.
What Categories Will The Chili be Judged?
The theme of the cookoff this year is Disney, so be sure and dress up as your favorite Disney character. The fee to enter the chili cookoff is $25, and cooks are asked to make enough for about 100 samples. Chili will be judged in 4 categories: Best Presentation, People’s Choice, Best in Texarkana, and a special Top Restaurant category.
Vashil Fernandez, Chair of TXKHC said,
Some of the deepest needs we have as human beings are to be heard, seen, and accepted. It is not often that the homeless and impoverished in our community get to experience the satisfaction of these most basic needs.
