On Sept. 8, 2015, Bowie County Deputies Russell Crawford and Lt. George Huggins were dispatched to check on the welfare of dogs located in the 1600 block of County Road 1116 Maud, Texas. When they arrived at this location, they found 14 deceased dogs and one living dog in kennels attached to a shop building.

Lt. Huggins located one of the owners of the property, Kelley Crow, who gave him permission to look inside the shop. That's where Deputy Crawford and Huggins found 10 additional deceased dogs. No food or water was found in any of these kennels. Lt. David Childers was called to the scene to take custody of the sole surviving dog for transportation to a veterinarian for treatment.

Lt. Childers then obtained arrest warrants for owners of this property Roy and Kelley Crow. On Sept. 9, 2015, the Crows turned themselves in at the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office. They were each arrested for their outstanding warrant for Cruelty to Non-Livestock Animals. Judge Nancy Talley warned Roy and Kelley Crow and set their bond at $25,000 each.
