There are groups of people, who are devoting their time to clean up the roadways in Bowie County in Northeast Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Transportation it's all part of the Adopt-a-Highway Program. Some of those getting involved include the crew at Nettles Nest Country Inn.

They were busy recently picking up litter along a stretch of FM 991 between U.S. HIghway 67 and Elliot Creek.

Volunteers in the group picked up eight bags of trash, including one which was aluminum cans that were sent for recycling. TxDOT says this newest Adopt-a-Highway group has started strong with two litter pickups this month.

Anyone interested in adopting a stretch of highway, can contact Stephanie Farhney at TxDOT, The phone number to call is 903-799-1202.

We applaud these and other Adopt-a-Highway volunteers for helping to clean-up along our road and highways.

We also encourage people to not litter, keep our cities, communities, and rural areas clean of trash.
