A man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole following a jury trial for the 2021 shooting death of Keith McFadden in Texarkana, Arkansas.

Back on September 20, 2021, officers from the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD) responded to a shooting near East 11th and California streets.When officers arrived, they found McFadden was suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the life saving efforts performed on McFadden by police, emergency responders, and citizens at the scene, McFadden did not survive.

Detectives immediately launched an investigation into the crime. Eventually, detectives identified Cornell Brown, 33, of Memphis, Tennessee, as the primary suspect. TAPD detectives got to work gathering evidence that linked Brown to the murder. The evidence found told them that Brown had traveled from Memphis to Texarkana specifically to commit the murder.

With support from the Miller County Prosecutor’s Office and multiple law enforcement agencies, TAPD obtained an arrest warrant for Brown on a charge of capital murder. Brown was taken into custody in Tennessee in October 2021 and later extradited to Arkansas to face charges.

Brown's trial began this past Monday, November 4, 2024. By Wednesday, November 6, the trial was over and the jury found Brown guilty of capital murder. He has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

TAPD expressed pride in the work of their detectives and gratitude to the Miller County Prosecutor’s Office for their dedication in securing Brown’s conviction. They also extended thanks to the jurors, acknowledging the difficulty and importance of their role in achieving justice for McFadden’s family and friends.

In a press release the TAPD stated,

We hope that this successful prosecution can bring closure and comfort to the family and friends of Keith McFadden.

The TAPD also thanked the the Miller County Prosecutor's Office for their "exceptional service and unwavering commitment to justice."
