The Texarkana Texas Shop with a Cop and Firefighter program is partnering with the Dusty Rose Band and Scottie’s Grill to provide some great entertainment and an opportunity to support a great cause this Saturday night.

The 2nd Annual Dusty Rose Band concert benefiting Texarkana Texas Shop with a Cop and Firefighter program kicks off at 6PM, with the band taking the stage at 7:30PM.

There is no admission charge to the concert, but donations will be gladly accepted.  The event last year raised over $3,000 that went directly to help providing a Christmas for children right here in our community.

For many officers and firefighters, the day of Shop with a Cop and Firefighter in early December is the true beginning of the Christmas season.  On the day of the event, 100 local underprivileged children selected by CPS are paired with a police officer or firefighter at the Target store and given $120 to spend on anything that they would like – probably picking out things that they wouldn’t have gotten otherwise.  And then to watch them use part of their money to get things for others in the family is truly touching.  I’ve even seen young kids pick out some diapers for a younger brother or sister because they know that they need them.  Many times, the officers don’t worry about their child going over the $120 that they’ve been given as they reach into their own wallets to personally cover the overage.
