How to Enjoy the 2026 State Fair of Texas on a Budget
The State Fair of Texas is known for deep-fried everything, carnival rides, and plenty of ways to separate you from your money. But you shouldn't have to take on a second or third mortgage to enjoy some Big Tex hospitality. Below, you will find some terrific options to have a great time at the 2026 State Fair of Texas on a budget.
The Fair has announced a new Every Day Values program for 2026, giving Fairgoers more options for affordable food, rides, drinks, and even souvenirs.
Save Money on the Midway
One of the biggest changes this year is lower pricing on most Midway rides and games.
- Most rides and games are 17% cheaper on average than last year.
- Thrilling Tuesdays return, with most rides costing just four coupons.
- Select kiddie rides will cost three coupons on Tuesdays.
- The Thrillway and Texas Star Ferris Wheel are not included in the Tuesday deal.
- The historic Midway Dentzel Carousel will be six coupons.
State Fair of Texas Food Under $10
Fair food doesn't have to mean a $20-per-person lunch. The Fair says there will be more than 200 food and beverage items priced at $10 or less. Look for the Every Day Value sticker at participating food stands.
Other Budget-Friendly Options
- Fletcher's Original Corny Dog - 8 coupons
- Bottled water at select locations - 1 coupon
- Cotton candy - 6 coupons
- Kids' refillable drinkware - 10 coupons, with 5-coupon refills
- Free chocolate milk at the GO TEXAN Pavilion!
There will also be value-priced combo meals around the Fairgrounds.
Plenty Is Included With Admission
You don't have to pay extra for everything at the Fair. Admission includes more than 100 free attractions, exhibits, entertainment, and activities every day.
That includes more than 100 live music performances, the Texas Auto Show, museums, livestock exhibits, agricultural activities, Creative Arts exhibits, children's activities, the nightly Starlight Parade, and the nightly Illumination Sensation fireworks show.

And, of course, there's Big Tex.
A Few More Ways to Stretch Your Fair Dollars
- If you're trying to keep the family budget under control, consider making a day out of the free attractions and choosing just one or two paid experiences.
- Go on a Tuesday if rides are a priority. The Thrilling Tuesday prices can make a noticeable difference for families.
- Eat strategically. Check the Every Day Value food list before you go and look for the $10-and-under options.
- Take advantage of free entertainment. With more than 100 live performances and all those included attractions, you don't have to buy something every time you turn around.
