Many brick-and-mortar stores and even some restaurants struggled to keep their business open with a struggling economy or bankruptcy that shut down many stores. In 2024 Texarkana saw many stores and restaurants that were in business for a long time close their doors.

Stores and Restaurants Bid Farewell to Texarkana

Reggie's Burgers and Fries - A family-owned restaurant on State Line Avenue closed.

The Duke Bar and Grill - The owner recently posted on their Facebook page that they will be hanging up their spurs for good to enjoy retirement.

Burke's Outlet - This national discount store opened 2017 and was to be converted to Bealls, its parent company before the business closed for good in Texarkana.

Conn's Home Plus - Conn's a national chain of furniture, appliances, and televisions opened in Texarkana in 2022 but bankruptcy eventually closed all the stores nationwide.

Rue 21 - a national retail chain clothing store in Central Mall that catered to a younger crowd closed its doors nationwide due to bankruptcy.

The Mighty Crab - a seafood restaurant in Texarkana closed its doors and is now a new sushi restaurant.

Steak and Shake - a national chain fast-food eatery in Nash, Texas closed this year leading the way for a new Fuzzy's Taco Shop.

America's Mattress - Located in the Texarkana Pavilion this national chain mattress store is still in the process of closing their store.

Gray's Jewelers - Opened in 1964 this family-owned business is closing after the business owners decided to retire.

Big Lots - First they were closing, then it was announced that the Texarkana store would not close, and now it's back to closing again. However, a private company just made a deal to save the Big Lots stores nationwide. So, at this point who knows? At the last report which was this weekend management told me they were closing. Banners were already hung in front of the store saying they were closing and shelves were looking bare.
