Texarkana Secures $500K EPA Grant for Major Redevelopment
Here's some great news for both cities of Texarkana, Texas and Arkansas. The cities have been working hard to improve old, unused properties and were recently awarded a $500,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPS) through its Brownfields Program.
The grant will help city officials on both sides of the stateline to identify and clean up properties that could be polluted and make them safe to reuse.
Brownfields are places or buildings that were previously used for businesses or industries but are now empty and abandoned due to potential contamination. The goal is to make these areas safe and ready for new businesses, homes and public spaces.
The Grant Money Texarkana, Texas, and Arkansas Will Receive Will Go Towards,
Identifying and inspecting old and underused sites.
Testing for pollution or environmental issues.
Plans to clean up and redevelop the sites.
Daphnea Ryan, the Grants Administration Manager for Texarkana, Texas, said in a press release,
This grant will play a pivotal role in advancing Texarkana’s commitment to economic revitalization and environmental sustainability.
She also said that a lot of sites have been abandoned due to unknown environmental conditions. This grant will give both sides of Texarkana the tools to rebuild and redevelop these areas safely.

Both mayors expressed their enthusiasm for the grant and what it means for Texarkana.
Texarkana, Texas, Mayor Bob Bruggeman said,
This program aligns with our Comprehensive Plan aimed at constructing a safe, healthy, and sustainable community.
And Texarkana, Arkansas, Mayor Allen Brown stated,
This grant is a win for both communities. It strengthens our regional partnership and lays the groundwork for targeted, impactful redevelopment. We are excited to move forward together.
