As kids, we all always heard about the "5 second rule". You know, you dropped food on the floor, but if you pick it up within 5 seconds then it's okay to eat it?  Then, we heard it was a myth. Now, it might be okay again?

A study at Aston University in Birmingham, England found that time does matter on bacteria transferring from the floor to the food.

According to the study results showed that:

Time is a significant factor in the transfer of bacteria from a floor surface to a piece of food.

The type of flooring the food has been dropped on has an effect, with bacteria least likely to transfer from carpeted surfaces and most likely to transfer from laminate or tiled surfaces to moist foods making contact for more than 5 seconds.

The study also showed that 87% of the people in the study have used the '5 Second Rule'! Hey we all need a few germs so our body can fight them off, right? Oh, by the way the picture is not of my hand it's my friend and co-worker Jeff's hand. No, I do not have man hands!
