What would October be without a little ghostly tale?

Did you know there was once a planned community that's now beneath the water in Arkansas known as Monte Ne, which means "Mountain Water?"

From 1901 to the mid-1930s, Libertarian presidential candidate William Hope "Coin" Harvey was hoping to make this community into a resort. However, he went belly up and was unable to obtain funds to complete the project. So he had to sell off the lots. Some structures that were already standing were flooded when the White River was dammed to make Beaver Lake in 1964.

Today Monte Ne has become a great place to fish but when the lake is lower than normal one of the most notable structures is the amphitheater where you are able to see some of the columns and steps. And what is even more creepy are the large high rise stone rock buildings known as Oklahoma Row and Missouri Row that can be seen during normal lake levels. Many of these buildings are covered with graffiti inside and out and depending on the lake levels some structures are not always submerged.

But ruins are visible on the Beaver Lake shores when the lake level is low. There's no telling what you might see.

Seeing a place like this is a stark reminder of what could have been all those many years ago. The historic city of Monte Ne is located near Rogers in Northwest Arkansas, which is only 4.5 hours from Texarkana.
