The University of Arkansas at Hope will sponsor a worker’s safety conference presented by the Arkansas Department of Labor and the U.S. Department of Labor.

The conference will be held on October 13 from 7:30AM to 2:30PM at Hempstead Hall.  The registration fee of $25 covers lunch and conference materials. Pre-registration is encouraged. A $10 late fee will be applied to registrations and payments received after October 3. To register go online and click “conference registration.”

Whether you are employed by a private company, a business owner, or work for a public agency, you and your co-workers can benefit greatly from attending this safety conference. The purpose of this event is to enhance workplace hazard recognition and strengthen a culture of workplace safety, thereby reducing employee injuries and illnesses.

8:25 am: OSHA Update: Carlos Reynolds, Area Director, U.S. Department of Labor ~ This presentation will highlight fatalities, penal-ties, and the top twenty most cited hazards in general industries in Arkansas, as well as the local, regional, and national emphasis programs.

9AM: Break

9:15AM: Situational Awareness: Ralph Hudson, Deputy Director, ADOL ~ This presentation will highlight the importance of always being alert and focused on the work task.

10AM: Break

10:10AM: SIFS Awareness - Hexion Chemicals: TBA ~ This presentation will highlight how one company combated hazards in the workplace and eliminated recurring injuries and illnesses.

11AM: Lunch

11:45AM: Effective Communication of Safety Principles - Supervisor and Employee Relationships: TBA ~ This presentation will address proper communication in supervising hourly workers.

12:30PM: Break

12:40PM: Violence in the Workplace: Maggie Young, Southwest EAP ~ This presentation will address methods of detecting and defusing potentially violent situations.

1:30PM Break

1:40PM: PPE Breakdown 101: TBA ~ This presentation will deal with identifying various types of PPE and how they are used in the workplace.
