A&M-Texarkana Veterans Services Center Wins Texas Excellence Gold Award
The Veterans Services Center at Texas A&M University-Texarkana has earned the Texas Veterans Commission’s Education Excellence Recognition Award for 2024, marking its third straight year to receive this honor.
The Education Excellence Award highlights colleges and universities that provide exceptional support for student veterans and their families. Institutions are recognized at gold, silver, or bronze levels based on the quality and range of their services, including designated meeting and study spaces, priority registration, academic advising, computer access, and work-study opportunities. Texas A&M University-Texarkana received the Silver Award in 2022. Then they received the Gold in both 2023 and 2024.
Located on the first floor of the Building for Academic and Student Services, A&M-Texarkana’s Veterans Services Center offers veterans a comfortable and spacious area with computer workstations, a quiet study room, a gathering area for events and light snacks for military-affiliated students. The center is run by 30-year Air Force veteran Robert Hernandez.
Hernandez said in a press release,
It is an honor to be able to continue serving our nation’s warriors here in the TAMUT Veteran Services Center. The transition from the military to civilian life can be challenging, even more so when you try to transition to college. We will work with both the Veteran as well as family members to help them find the right degree that will get them where they want to go in life. So, from admission to the university to the graduation stage and everything in between, that is what we do here in the Veteran Services Center.
Dr. Ross Alexander, president of A&M-Texarkana said this award reflects the university's dedication to supporting students who have served our country.
