2022 Fan Expo in Dallas Was Huge – Did You Go?
Fan Expo Dallas 2022 was a blast as always, we did the Expo a little different than we usually do. This time, instead of attending as press to photo and video everyone else, my wife and son wanted to do the cosplay thing, and boy did they ever.
Maleficent
My wife Donna has become quite the cosplay costume maker over the last year or so. Last Halloween she finished and debuted her Maleficent costume here in Texarkana and decided she wanted to wear it to Fan Expo Dallas this year. She made quite the splash spending most of the day Saturday posing for pics with Maleficent fans from all over the country. Fun stuff!
Legolas
My youngest son Tyler wanted to attend the Convention as well with us this year and since he's grown a couple of feet since his last cosplay costume, he needed a new one. Let's see, tall, skinny, blond, sounds like Legolas to me. So, Donna set about creating that costume for him. She did a great job on it too and learned a ton about how to work with moldable foam, new painting techniques, and much more. Wait till you see her new cosplay this October. Oh, and Legolas/Tyler apparently has a ton of fans as well, he was also in a bunch of pics.
Overall the Fan Expo in Dallas seemed to be very well attended this year with good stars, great Q&A sessions and as usual, long lines for autographs and photo sessions. There were lots of artists, vendors, professional cosplayers, voiceover artists, and some big-name wrestlers. we saw a few old friends and made some new ones as we always do. It was a great event and exhausting as usual. But a lot of fun.
Part of the fun is taking pictures with other cosplayers that look kinda like you but from a completely different story, like Maleficent and Cruella deVil...
Justin O'Keith is the Official Photographer of record for Fan Expo Dallas, based in Houston, Texas check out his work, he's good.
Looking forward to next year, who knows maybe we'll come up with a suitable cosplay costume for me as well, so I don't have to be just "the mule"... eh, who am I kidding.
Check out the Day 2 video below from Gabe's Cave YouTube page and see if you recognize the first couple of cosplayers.
Fan Expo Dallas is already planned for 2023, mark your calendars for June 9 - 11. More information is always available online at FanExpoHQ.com.
At last year's Fan Expo Dallas 2021, most were still masked up (see below), this year was way different.
