911 Call from Officer Involved Shooting in Texarkana [AUDIO]
Hear the 911 audio from the shooting of suspected burglar, Dennis Grigsby of Texarkana Texas, before he was shot by police while allegedly breaking into a home on December 15, 2014.
You can hear the fear in the resident's voice as she is on the phone with the 911 operator. The caller states that the man was breaking into a window that is in the home's garage with an object, she described as a "tool." It was at first thought to be a metal object, possibly a knife, but turned out to be a spoon. It was reported that the suspect would not comply with the officer's orders to stop and aggressively advanced on the officer. One shot was fired hitting the suspect, 35-year-old Grigsby, once in the chest.
From the TTPD press release,
Subsequent investigation has revealed that the previously described metal object was in fact a silver metallic spoon, approximately seven inches in length; that was being held by Grigsby in a manner consistent with someone holding a knife. The bowl of the spoon was concealed by Grigsby’s closed fist with the shank of the spoon protruding from the bottom of the closed fist giving the appearance of a knife blade. A witness at the scene has confirmed that he believed the suspect had a knife when he was approaching the officer.
Grigsby was taken to Christus St. Michael Hospital where he later died. His body has been sent to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science for an autopsy.
The Texarkana Texas Police Department has called the Texas Rangers to investigate this incident. The officer has been placed on Administrative leave till the investigation is done.
