Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced yesterday, December 16, 2024, over $17 million in grant funding for infrastructure projects across Texas military communities. That's the good news, the great news is the Ark-Tex Council of Governments will receive $5 million of that for the Red River Army Depot. The funding will support the Riverbend Water Resources District’s Industrial Wastewater Treatment Plant, ensuring critical infrastructure improvements at the depot.

The grant is part of the Texas Military Preparedness Commission’s Defense Economic Adjustment Assistance Grant (DEAAG) program. This initiative is aimed at strengthening military installations and protecting jobs.

“This $17 million in grant funding will help ensure Texas military facilities are up-to-date with the latest technology and support their infrastructure,” said Governor Abbott. “These installations are critical to our nation's defense and add over $151 billion to the Texas economy, supporting more than 677,000 Texas jobs.”
