⏰What to Expect and When
Are you a fan of Daylight Savings Time? If you are then prepare yourself for the possibility that those long summer nights could become a thing of the past at least for Arkansas.
Arkansas State Representative Stephen Meeks recently filed a new bill that, if passed, would end daylight saving time.
Why Don't We Stay in Daylight Savings Time?
Many states have approved bills to stay in Daylight Savings Time. The only problem is there is a federal law that says that states can only opt out of Daylight Savings Time. They can not stay in Daylight Savings Time permanently.
Until something changes in the federal law, states only have two options: to stay in Standard Time or keep things the way they are and change our clocks back and forth.
How do you feel about getting rid of Daylight Savings? It really depends on if you are a Spring and Summer or Fall and Winter person. And it is a pretty even split. For every person I hear say they don't like Daylight Savings Time, there is someone who says they love it (including me).
If The Bill Passes When Would it Go into Effect?
The bill will be presented in January when the state legislature is back in session. If it does pass it would take effect in the fall of 2025 when we change back to standard time and would stay there for good. Arkansas would then join Arizona and Hawaii as the only other states to opt out of Daylight Savings Time.
