A couple living in Greenwood, Arkansas recently woke up smelling smoke, and after trying to locate where it was coming from they discovered it outside on their patio deck.

That's when the family noticed that a huge mysterious gaping charred hole looked as though it was hit by something very large. Then they noticed that the fire looked as though it was distinguished by a portion of their hot tub that apparently melted from the excessive heat allowing water into the hole that put out the flames.

5NEWS a Fort Smith TV station was called in to investigate the incident along with local firefighters who were stumped because there were no electrical lines nearby. After further investigation, it's believed it could have been a meteorite, after all, we have been having quite a few meteor showers lately. The family says they found what looked like a magnetic rock after searching through the debris. Just thankful that the family was not injured in this rare occurrence, it could have been a lot worse.

Meteorites are not uncommon in Arkansas but they have to be sent off to the United States Geological Survey for further testing. The process is tedious and could take up to a year to become official and then the Governor has to sign off on it.
